The history of "Fucheng Century-old wooden clogs shop" can be traced back to the Japanese rule era. It began with the first generation Guo Quanlu learning to make wooden clogs in 1907, and then the second generation Guo Zegen opened a physical store in Ximen Ring. The wooden clogs from this small shop were once popular all over Taiwan, and even sold to Kinmen, Matsu, etc.ground. However, with the rise of plastic slippers in the 1950s, the demand for wooden clogs fell sharply, and the business gradually declined. After experiencing many struggles, the third-generation Guo Zongxing returned to his family business in 2010, and was inspired by Professor Chengda to make up his mind to focus on clog making.
With the help of government guidance, environmental protection trends and cultural and creative industries, Guo Zongxing not only revitalized the family clog business, but also renamed "Zhenxing Shoe Store" to "Fucheng Century-old clog shop" to strengthen the historical inheritance characteristics of the old shop. Today, this old shop not only focuses on handmade wooden clogs, but also provides customized design services, allowing traditional craftsmanship to be integrated into modern creativity, continuing a century-old tradition and injecting new life. Guo Zongxing's children also participated in the inheritance, making this old shop come out of the storm and become a unique handicraft landscape in Tainan.
